The sunshine is streaming through the windows, the birds are chirping, and it seems like winter is finally over! Spring has arrived, and with it comes one of the busiest times for home stagers.
A home stager is all about the details! Whether you’re cleaning up after the winter thaw or creating curb appeal through design and landscaping techniques, spring is a time of renewal in nature, and the same goes for the homes you’re staging. Employ the use of bright colours, springtime flowers, and lush gardens to create fresh, energetic spaces.
Also, don’t forget that spring is the time when many people start thinking about selling their homes. As a home stager, it’s the time of year to roll up your sleeves and get to work!
We’ve gathered some tips to help balance your workload and make the most of one of your busiest seasons.
Cleaning Up & Creating Curb Appeal
It’s been a long winter, and now is the time to take a step back and really evaluate what fresh details the exterior of the home needs. Curb appeal refers to how stylish, polished, and welcoming a home appears from the outside. Good news—the spring season is one of the easiest times of the year to achieve curb appeal! Here are some details you should take into consideration:- Does the front of the house need to be pressure-washed?
- How does the paint look? Could it use a fresh coat or two?
- Are the windows in need of a wash?
- What areas of the front yard/porch could benefit from pots or boxes of fresh flowers?
- Are there any dead leaves or branches to be picked up? If so, take care to either rake them or pick them up, and if you need to plant any more grass on the front lawn, now is the time to do so.
- After the wrath of winter, how does the garden look? As a Home Stager, it is important for you to employ basic landscaping techniques to achieve a clean, tidy space with healthy, blooming flowers. HGTV has some excellent tips on proper landscaping!
Adding That Spring Touch
Freezing cold winter temperatures can create stale air within a home over several months. Now is the time to throw open those windows and let both the spring air and sunshine in! Any room can be cheered up by adding the following springtime elements:- Bright Colors: Out with the old and in with the new! In your bedroom, swap dark colors for bright ones—instead of heavy, flannel bedspreads, lay out light, floral-pattered ones. For the living room, simply add brightly colored throw pillows to your chairs and sofas to supercharge the space with energy.
- White Linens: Change sheets and bathroom towels to crisp white for a fresh feeling.
- Flowers: Keep the colors in the home consistent by adding in some beautiful blooms wherever possible in bright, complementary shades. Yellows and blues will liven up any room.
